This chapter analyzes the militarization of political language in digital contexts in the post-Brexit discourse, and how such militarization, which is often constitutive of hate speech, contributes to framing an “exclusive” concept of the nation whose meaning is reproduced and circulated (as well as challenged) in society. It will address the role of emotions and hate in language in fueling and aggregating online communities around a key political issue, i.e. the Brexit negotiations, and a core cultural and social concept, i.e. the nation. In this article, starting with the exemplary case of Charlie Hebdo, we discuss the way in which the theme of laughter is intertwined with that of freedom of expression. More precisely, we try to answer the following questions: how can the comic framework modify the space of freedom of expression? Can everything be said within this kind of framework? Can laughter be both an antidote and an enhancer of verbal violence?

In this intervention the idea is submitted that the interim measures in the case Casapound v. Facebook, by means of which Fb Ireland was ordered by the Rome Tribunal (on December 12, 2019) to reactivate the profile of the extreme right wing political association Casapound - previously closed as a consequence of an alleged violation of fb standards concerning hate speech - can be criticized under international and european law. Such criticisms stem both from the overall picture of the international and european legal standards concerning hate speech (par. 2) and from the relevant case law of the European Court of Human rights (paras. 3 and 4).

Il mercato dell’informazione e il regime della libertà di manifestazione del pensiero hanno subito ingenti mutamenti nell'era di internet, determinando fra l'altro la crisi dei media. Lo studio approfondisce i modelli attraverso i quali vengono selezionate le informazioni on line e quelli di distribuzione delle stesse ed evidenzia i rischi derivanti dalle fake news e dagli hate speach, che soffocano il "mercato delle idee" e della informazione, concludendo con una riflessione sulle possibilità di regolazione del fenomeno.
